Successful Anti-Aging Treatments with Botox!

The repeated use of facial muscles during regular actions such as smiling, frowning, and squinting causes wrinkles and lines to appear on our face. And as we age, there is a reduction in the production of collagen and elastin in the skin, two proteins responsible for keeping the skin plump. This combination leads to more permanent wrinkles that increase with time.

Botox and other injectables have become incredibly popular because they can reverse some of these signs of aging, without the downside that accompanies surgery. Botox is especially effective for reducing the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead/brow, between the eyes, and the crow’s feet on the sides of the eyes.

Your Botox Session

Botox works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles the create wrinkles above them on the surface of the skin. Made from the botulinum toxin, Botox blocks the nerves from sending message to those muscles, effectively stopping them from contracting. In a Botox session, a series of very small amounts of Botox are injected into a variety of targeted locations. Topical anesthetic is not needed due to the minute size of the Botox needles. A Botox session takes around 15 minutes. Then the patient can immediately return to her normal activities.

Botox results are not immediate, taking from three to seven days to fully show themselves. Botox works best for patients from 25 to 65, as patients’ wrinkles at ages beyond 65 tend to become static as the skin loses pliability. For the first 24 hours following your injections, patients need to avoid massaging or rubbing the injection sites; this can make the Botox migrate into unwanted muscles, causing side effects such as droopy eyelids. Overall, Botox results last from three to six months. When the muscles begin to contract again and the wrinkles begin to reappear, it’s time for another session.
